Abstract
The article examines the authorship of two a cappella Masses, both of which have been attributed to the Venetian musician Giovanni Rovetta (c.1596–1668). One Mass, it is concluded, might be the work of Rovetta; the other setting is identified as by Clément Janequin. Given that Rovetta was maestro of San Marco, Venice, relevant aspects of this church's performance and liturgical practices are discussed.
